I opened my Etsy shop in 2009. For the first two years my studio was run from my bedroom in our Amsterdam apartment. In the beginning there was a lot of trial and error with products, design and technique. I had always worked in creative industries, however running your own online business is quite different and there is a lot to learn.
My first major investment was a large printer that allowed me to print on to canvas. Having this kind of freedom to produce my product made a big difference. Once I had sewed on the unique pieces of felt on to each one I would make the wooden frame mount it and photograph it myself.
When I look back now I realise that I have come along way. My shop has grown in style and content. I license and sell my designs and have had wonderful experiences working to commission both privately and for larger businesses. This is now my full time job, working for yourself is always a challenge but it is one that I continue to enjoy and I hope get better at!
